I have a new awareness of just what loving what is means to animals. What is, is life, and animals don’t question it or–as far as we know–even think about it. When I watch my wolf dog, Lucy, it is clear she is present, alert and aware of what is going on. She doesn’t appear to be consumed by memories of the past or worries about the future. She seems enormously content to just be who she is: an amazing being who takes life as it comes, one moment at a time.
